Elected by MDI Students as Best Faculty in PGPM for 2004-06, 2006-08, 2007-09, 2009-11, 2010-12, 2011-13, 2012-14, 2013-15, 2015-17, 2016-18, and 2017-19.
Class of 2012-13
The last two trimesters i spent on MDI were full of enlightenment. All thanks to Prof. Sanjay Bakshi and his life changing classes. I was never excited to go to classes especially the early morning ones but here i was happily hopping, jogging and running to attend his classes (early morning extra classes too). The reason was simple – I was learning to not only become a better stock picker but also to lead a better life, to look at the world as it should be. We were being introduced to a new league of role models – from Warren Buffett and Charlie Munger to Daniel Kahnemann and Carol Loomis. What was even better were Sir’s own experiences, right from the biases that affected his decisions to the amazing analysis of the businesses and special situations.
One thing common between both his courses, BFBV and FSCG was that they both were non traditional to the core. On one hand in BFBV, we learnt that flaws of modern corporate finance and the wiring of human brain and on the other hand in FSCG, we learnt that the scope of governance is more than what we read in nearly all the articles – independent board members, no. of board members etc. and that too while watching movies in the early morning classes.
Sanjay Bakshi Sir will always be an inspiration and a role model for me and his teachings will help me in leading a better life.
Regards,
Prateek Dhingra
Class of 2011-12
I had to wait for 15 months before I got a chance to attend BFBV. But only a few minutes into the lecture and I knew that the wait was worth it.
The 8th version of BFBV was an amazing experience which started with destruction of principles of modern finance. It razed the faulty structures made of flawed assumptions and Greeks. It was Prof. Sanjay Bakshi who gave us a peek into the world of value investing. He brought techniques of Benjamin Graham, wisdoms of Charlie Munger and principles of Warren Buffett under one umbrella called BFBV. The icing on the cake was the rich wealth of experience, extraordinary sense of humor and real life examples which he brought to the table and shared with us without any reluctance.
His were the lectures that we longed to attend and the only ones we wished may never end. During the course, the materials and books that he shared with us will be among the most valued possessions that we obtained from MDI. The presentations that he delivers were updated the previous day or even the same morning as that of lecture which was quite amazing. It serves as an example of the outstanding effort and commitment that he puts in teaching us. My MBA would have been incomplete without BFBV and FSG. The extra lecture that he took was the most wonderful and befitting end to my MBA classes.
Prof. Sanjay Bakshi will be a role model for us in our professional and even more so in personal lives. It was he who made me understand the meaning of ‘leading from the front’. He keeps saying that BFBV evolves every year but I don’t know how the course can get better. BFBV not only taught me the principles of investing but it gave me much more valuable lessons in life.
Hats off to you sir!

By far the best prof of my life. He has not just taught a course, he has influenced lives of student. Given a choice i could have studied only his course throughout my MBA. We owe a lot to Prof. Bakshi. The learning of his class will continue to influence our lives in the years to com.

You are the most amazing teacher from whom I have ever studied. I learnt not only the principles of finance but much much more than that…life that is. Every single penny given to MDI was well spent because of the learning’s I had from BFBV & FSG. Your FSG course is the only course till date which I attended regularly without actually registering for it.
BFBV compelled me to open a DMAT account and am happy that am practicing what you taught. I have started enjoying the process of identifying mispriced securities and analyzing companies. I thoroughly enjoyed the courses and the 3 hour special class you took and befittingly that was the last class I had in MDI. Luckily I got placed in HSBC equity research and so will be able to benefit from the learning’s all my life. Thank you so much Sir.

My MBA wouldn’t have been complete had I not taken up Professor Sanjay Bakshi’s course. There was already a tremendous amount of positive feedback for Sir’s course, but after having been through the course, I honestly feel that the value of this course has still been underplayed.
Clarity of thought and common sense are stressed upon a lot in the BFBV course, and rightly so. Professor Bakshi, for us, has personified achievement – in the sense that he achieved whatever goals he set his sights on. And owing to his presence, most of us had a strong positive vibe that we could also do well, not only in value investing but in life in general.
Also, most of us had experienced steady surges of “dopamine” and timelessness during sir’s lectures. BFBV was one of the very few courses where we eagerly used to look forward to each and every session.
Apart from giving us a holistic understanding of businesses, lots of valuable insights on life, a plethora of thinking techniques, acquaintance with numerous experts in varied fields, sir had also made sure that we have access to a fantastic role model – himself. This, I believe, is the ‘icing on a wonderfully sumptuous cake’.
My learning’s from Sir had already benefitted me to a great extent within this short span of time. And I look forward to more of the same in the future as well. Signing off, I will remain hoping for an opportunity to be able to associate myself with Professor Sanjay Bakshi in the future.

There are very few moments that foster ones level of conscience and leave an indelible impact on ones life. Meeting Professor Sanjay Bakshi and attending his course has provided me with many such moments.
There are two aspects to being taught by him. One is that you learn about behavioral finance and valuation from a person, who has dedicated his life to the learning and practice of the subject, somebody who has seen the markets through a number of years and has chartered his success story by following the same methods taught by him. The minute intricacies that he brings, as a practitioner, are an eye opener in many ways. By taking his course at MDI, I was lucky enough to get an opportunity to learn the collected wisdom, of masters such as Ben Graham and Charlie Munger and its real world application by Prof. Bakshi.
Another aspect is that you get an opportunity to observe and learn from a person who has all the qualities of being a role model for a number of reasons. No wonder then that many people who do not envisage a career in finance and valuation, take his course and are fortunate to revel in the learning due to this second aspect. Things that make him a stand out include his humility, focus, sincere and truthful way of observing any situation and a zeal for continuous learning and improvement. While these words may seem like an exaggeration, one must meet the man himself to learn how to personify these wonderful traits. His pursuit of perfection is an inspiration in itself. Hoping that he continues to inspire many more generation of students.

Class of 2010-11
It was fitting that your last class to us was on serendipity. As I walked out of the auditorium and towards my room, I couldn’t help look back at the intellectual journey I have been through, by means of your lectures to us. You have changed our outlook not only towards finance but also towards life. You are one of India’s greatest investors and yet your humility and openness to new ideas is something we can all learn from. I know it is too early in my career for me to think this but I can’t help but wonder what path my life would have taken, if I had not had the privilege to be taught by you. You have helped shape not only my investment philosophy but also my choice of career and by extension my personality. I think the best sentence that can sum up your course is a line I had read in Tuesdays with Morrie: “A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops.” Sir, I have learned so much from you and will continue to owe you so much more in the future that I can never even dream of “paying it forward” to other people. You have been an inspiration to us all and I can’t imagine any other person getting a five minute long standing ovation the way you did after today’s class. You truly deserve all the praise heaped upon you.
Bakshi is mind blowing. The course was like a craftsman teaching his art with utmost passion.Would recommend to everybody to attend this course, even the non finance guys.
Great teacher with great experience. If given chance I would like to attend his classes again.

Class of 2008-09
I came to MDI with huge expectations from BFBV having spoken to many of your past students. Today, I can safely say that the course not only lived up to my expectations but hugely exceeded them by a “margin of safety” that is synonymous with the style of investing you teach. I am in fact sad that the course is over and that is testimony to just how much I enjoyed it. I also feel that restricting what I gained from this course to just its subject matter would be wrong. I cannot recall a single other course where I learnt so much about the vagaries of the world and how to deal with them. Your teaching style was engaging and very unique. Your mentoring priceless. I could go into many more details about how much this course has changed my life but I am sure you have heard it all before!! I just want to end by saying a big thank you for everything and wishing you lots of good health… Hope to keep in touch (mainly through many more emails filled with questions :-))
For ADMIN : He is best professor at MDI. Facilities at MDI need to improve a lot to accommodate professor like him.

Excellent subject and the prof is also brilliant…it is indeed amazing that MDI is one of the very few institutes in the world where a subject like this is taught.
Excellent examples from real companies. The course is the best I`ve ever done. Have learnt more in these 22 lectures than in several other courses put together.
Enjoyed the sessions, learnt a lot about how to look through data available in public domain.
A perfect mix of Theory and Practical aspects of Investment styles.

What an end to such a wonderful course. You can’t imagine what the course meant to me. . . What I got was mind blowing. I hope BFBV gets better every year. Congratulations on this wonderful course.
He just doesn’t change perspectives of finance… He changes lives.
Your course has been one of the most fascinating I have attended in my life. Though I am not looking for a job in Finance, but still the course has been the biggest value addition (anyways u mentioned in the first class that this course is not Finance but worldly wisdom, and it has been that for me). I just wanted to thank you for sharing the wealth of knowledge, information and wisdom you have accumulated over the years. Many times in your class, I have felt that is it humanly possible to do what you have done?? You have been both a role model and a huge inspiration for all of us ( though i do not know how many of us have the guts to do what you have done and abandon the security which an MNC job offers and starting out on our own….). At this moment when all of us are at cross roads and do not know what the future holds for us, your story is an inspiration that we too can make our own future.
For me this course was one of the most enriching courses at MDI. I always was inclined towards stocks and now this course of yours has enhanced it greatly.
About disagreement , yes thats why i really liked your idea of killing our own ideas – you explained in class …. Thanx for that lesson and a lot of other things.
On behalf of the entire batch, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for this wonderful and memorable time we spent together during the last 6 months. If I could use this word, there is only one word to explain our experience in this course-Fantabulous. The learning was truly multi-dimensional and multi-faceted. A majority of my colleagues will agree when I say that this course taught us not only to make money, but to tackle life and this I believe is the greatest value-add from this course. I am also truly justified in saying that this course-BFBV is by far the best course at MDI or in fact any other B school. We are indeed privileged that you are associated with our school and that we had the opportunity to interact with you for such a long duration. We really enjoyed your jokes/cracks and also the 20 mails you sent daily 😉
Thanks a lot for ur help. Will get back to u for more in future. U are really an amazing person… Please excuse me for this flattered praise… I am still feeling that I should not write this but I just want to let this mail go before I delete.
I was left ‘without words’ after reading your mail. It is truly great to have a live testimony in front of ourselves of the fact that perseverance and struggles in life do pay off and pay handsomely well. A very inspirational mail indeed for me, Sir. It has given me more strength to go ahead with my plans in life.
Really good course. the effort put in by prof. Bakshi induced me to reciprocate.
The prof is fabulous. the best one on campus. very practical.
Best course at MDI. Thank you sir for sharing soooo much knowledge with us.
He is an amazing professor
Overall a great subject!! and a great teacher!! A small suggestion- stress should be more on current happenings rather than old.
The course was one of the best courses offered at MDI
The course was the only learning in two years at MDI and should be at the beginning of second year so that there is more time to learn..
Awesome, fantabulous, too cool, amazing experience…..
One of the best courses offered.
Sir you have inspired us in lot many ways. thanks. . . My biggest takeaway was the mental model classes
A gem of a professor..should be retained by MDI as permanent faculty.
An awesome experience!!!
He`s one of the best things that have happened to MDI!
The course has been excellent and the learning immense, has really forced people to think.
Thanx for all the energy u bring to the class.
Amazing Professor. the fact that the concepts taught by him are actually practiced by him and have worked, arouses lot more interest.
The knowledge and delivery style of the professor is simply great.
Sir`s method of teaching is very comprehensive though the content in classes sometimes becomes very difficult to absorb the best ; provided best materials, very helpful and always available, should be given more credit to his course.

Class of 2003-04
I’ve learned more in this course than all other courses combined.
Simply Excellent. Not only the concepts but the faculty gave the different aspects of real life. Salute to one of the greatest faculty/person I have ever met.
Great work u inspire many people in our batch.
Its always refreshing to attend classes where originality in thinking is encouraged and practised – more so if one can pick up a few hints on how to manage wealth along the way too.
Please also accept our heartfelt appreciation on quite clearly the most outstanding and practical course at MDI.
A class act. really competent professor with a great sense of humour. the pedagogy was very innovative and effective. very, very impressive (i`m running out of superlatives here).
He’s the best teacher in MDI by far!
Definitely amongst the top faculty at MDI.
Key asset of MDI. Should be highly valued.
Great exposure to the art of valuing a business.
The course and the faculty member (both) are exceptional! Thanks for such a combination.
Being from a non-finance background, this course made us appreciate the concepts of finance, and also introduced valuation concepts hitherto unknown to me. Sir, your handling of the course is excellent, and the whole course is very interesting (except exams and quiz of course).
A professor who puts in real effort.
GREAT COURSE. The instructor is brilliant. Lot of value addition.
The course made me feel comfortable that I didn’t waste my 4 lakhs in MDI.
The best course in MDI. Should be made compulsory for all. Should be introduced in the 4th and 5th terms along with the security analysis course.
Absolutely brilliant. Should reduce the number of quizzes and assignments in the last term.
Very innovative professor.
Superb prof….words r insufficient to describe how good he is…!!!!!!!!! the guy is just too good!!!!!
Nice course, is a lot of value addition.
Excellent learning.
The course was one of the best ones in MDI and was helpful in learning many new concepts in finance.
Brilliant, the most useful course in the entire two years. However, the professor can probably reduce 2-3 cases in the class and take up more on behavioural finance.
Great guy- should take course earlier.
Excellent concepts and material. Extremely committed. Available for help outside the class as well.
Brilliant, absolutely brilliant course to take.
Great prof !!!!!!!!!
Excellent Content, Philosophy and Delivery….Was more applied than most other courses.
Your course was the best till date… Thank you for teaching us.
Readings were very good and useful.
Good course in terms of practical content.
One of the most striking thing I observed about you is ur reading habits… You almost seem to know anything to everything about the thing ur talking about…
Thank you for the extremely enriching and entertaining curriculum you gave us.
Absolutely brilliant.
Wow.
Great delivery of lectures.
Good course….great to be taught by a practitioner.
One course whose learning can be applied in real life.

On the whole, it was the best course and faculty at MDI.
Great experience…..plzzzzz continue the good work
The single most relevant course in my point of view.
The course has been another kind of eye opener after security analysis. He teaches all practical stuff, and which is simple finance. It has been a tremendous learning experience. Thanx a lot to Prof. Bakshi for this course.
The Professor has excellent knowledge about the subject. Keep it up.
Simply superb.
The Best Course at MDI. If a person joins MDI for just this course and does nothing else, he still has a good chance of making more money than others. The Real Finance and the Real MBA. I am very very happy to be a part of this course.
Overall the course was very good. One of the best courses in the two years at MDI.
This was by far the best course at MDI, well structured, well taught by professor and eagerly received by students. Words are not sufficient for its praise. I really liked it.
A very learned faculty. The course should be taken in 4th and 5th terms to have more serious students` involvement and learning. Nevertheless, the best professor at MDI!
Extraordinary lectures… learning for life! I have learnt something which I dont think I would have ever even know about.
Excellent prof. Nothing can be better than studying from a practioner. Couldn’t have asked for more.
Good job done in stimulating the mind. Was very interesting throughout.
Only course in the MDI whose class I used to look forward to, great teacher, great subject
Too brilliant and hope this course carries on like this.
The professor was amazing, fabulous. He really made the classes interesting and the practical examples given by him are worth listening. Course can be made better by incorporating a couple of classes for project presentations.
The course elaborated a lot (and wonderfully so) on one school of thought i.e. value investing. However, it would be enriching for us if some time is also spent on the concept of growth based investing.
I`ll just say one word— Excellent.
The course is absolutely fabulous.
Brilliant teaching. Just goes to show what a commited prof (an outsider) can do to a drap course like valuation.
Extremely useful and wonderful prof.. just too good to be true.

Class of 2001-02
Handling of the course by faculty was excellent and all the feed back and replies to our queries were practical and not just theoretical.
This was the best course offered in the area of Finance. The faculty was also excellent. Mr. Bakshi should be asked to take more courses.
He is stupendous. No theoretical farts, only logic. Best professor I have ever come across.
Course should have been offered in term V, so that more time was devoted to it by the students. Excellent handling by Prof. Bakshi.
Great Teacher !!! Simply great.
SUPERB! Most fundamental and revolutionary course at MDI – should be made compulsory.
Excellent course with an excellent prof.
He is a great prof. He gave new directions to our thinking. He must be called for other courses also
one of the most outstanding courses in the last two years. Thank you sir.
This course made MDI worth it. All of the financial knowledge acquired converged to a very pragmatic and honest business intelligence and was very helpful and overwhelming. The course was simple too good.
Perfect, others should learn from him.
Great course, and the faculty was brilliant.
An amazing course and a more amazing teacher. Mr Bakshi is by far the most dedicated and best teacher in MDI. His classes are a treat.
By far the best course I had at MDI. I feel proud to be a part of the cast which featured in this course. The learning would have been enhanced much more had Mr Sanjay Bakshi taken few more courses.
Great faculty……….he is easily the best faculty I came across……..have this course compulsory for all….and may be in third term….I am pretty sure, many more students will get interested in finance.
Good course….good faculty.
Excellent course, basically gives u real time learning, professor should take more courses on finance, he should be made permanent faculty.
The best course in all two years of my stay at MDI.
Actually felt that I m being prepared for being a manager. I thoroughly enjoyed ur class sir. Thnx a lot.
The best course in the whole PGPM course by far. It would be much more beneficial to the students if this course is conducted in some term prior to the last one. Perhaps no one can make business valuation so interesting as Mr. Bakshi.
Good course….nice prof…but low involvement of students make the class more participative
Excellent value adding course but can be more participative.
I am a non fin student, but this is my best course at MDI. I may not be very good at fin number crunching, but I won’t be blank in job when it comes to fin. Thanks.
The best professor I have come across at MDI.
